In the Moon Jar series, Indrani Singh Cassime revisits the archetypal dal-hangari form, stripping it of its traditional porcelain purity to expose a more visceral, geological identity. The vessel does not merely reference the lunar cycle; it embodies its gravitational pull.
Fired in the Anagama kiln, the jar’s expansive, spherical volume—described by the artist as a “bursting shape”—acts as a canvas for the violence of the firing process. The surface is a topography of ash and flame, a rugged counterpoint to the serenity of the form’s silhouette. This tension between the rough, scorched skin and the perfect equilibrium of the sphere creates a stabilizing presence, channeling the generative, feminine force of creation into a singular object of monolithic silence.
“The moon does not rush
It is the gentle romance
Peace, harmony, deep longing
The moon does not rush”
