The Expansion series marks a significant evolution in Indrani’s sculptural scale, moving from intimate forms toward monumental, vertical assertions of space. The works find their genesis in the subterranean architecture of the Corbett National Park, specifically the towering termite mounds that punctuate the landscape of Uttarakhand.
Indrani interprets these mounds not merely as natural phenomena, but as extraordinary examples of collective, instinctive engineering. Through the erratic, high-heat atmosphere of the Anagama kiln, the clay is subjected to the same stresses of accumulation and erosion found in the wild. The resulting forms function as organic monoliths—vertical “termite towers” that possess a quiet, ancient authority. Each piece stands as an individual record of growth, yet when viewed together, they form a rhythmic, architectural forest that questions the boundary between the built environment and the earth.
